Leafs backup G Campbell out 'weeks'

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe says backup goaltender Jack Campbell will be out "weeks" with a leg injury.

Campbell was hurt late in Toronto's 3-2 win at Calgary on Sunday when Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk landed on him in a goalmouth scrum.


Penguins eye 5th win in row, face Bruins

The Pittsburgh Penguins look to carry the momentum from a perfect homestand into a two-game road series against the Boston Bruins beginning Tuesday.

The Penguins have won four straight since dropping their first two contests on the road at the Philadelphia Flyers. Each of Pittsburgh's victories required comebacks, with three extending beyond regulation.


Sutter has hat trick, Canucks rout Sens

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) Brandon Sutter recorded a hat trick and the Vancouver Canucks routed the Ottawa Senators 7-1 on Monday night.

It was a much-needed victory for Vancouver, which had not won in regulation since its season opener on Jan. 13.


Blackhawks F DeBrincat put on COVID list

CHICAGO (AP) The NHL has placed Chicago Blackhawks forward Alex DeBrincat and defenseman Adam Boqvist on the league's COVID-19 protocol list.

The NHL announced the decision on Monday. The move means DeBrincat and Boqvist won't be able to play, practice or travel with the team until they are cleared.


Predators G Ingram in assistance program

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Nashville Predators goaltender Connor Ingram is voluntarily taking part in a confidential NHL player assistance program, keeping him away from the team during that time.

The NHL and its union announced Ingram's decision Monday and said there will be no further comment.


Leafs Hall of Famer Armstrong dies at 90

TORONTO (AP) George Armstrong, who captained the Toronto Maple Leafs to four Stanley Cups in the 1960s, has died. He was 90.

His death was announced Sunday by the Maple Leafs, who said he died of heart complications, citing his family.


Suter's 1st 3 NHL goals lift Blackhawks

CHICAGO (AP) Pius Suter exhaled after he scored his first NHL goal. Once he got his second, he started thinking about another one.

Suter collected his first three goals in his sixth game and Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves, helping the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-2 on Sunday for their second straight win.


Stars match 2-game PPG record, top Preds

DALLAS (AP) Joe Pavelski helped the Dallas Stars tie the NHL record for power-play goals in the first two games, scoring one of three with the man advantage in another victory over the Nashville Predators, 3-2 on Sunday night.

Denis Gurianov and Roope Hintz also scored on the power play after the Stars went 5 of 8 with the man advantage in a 7-0 victory over the Predators in their delayed opener. Dallas was 3 of 4 on the power play this time.


Oilers' Draisaitl beats Jets at buzzer

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) Leon Draisaitl scored with less than a second left to give the Edmonton Oilers a 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night.

As a late Edmonton power play expired, Oilers forward Connor McDavid tried to move the puck around the Winnipeg net. He then passed the puck back to Draisaitl, who fired the puck past Jets goalie Laurent Brossoit with fractions of a second left.
