EASTON, Pa. (AP) Max Mahoney had 28 points as Boston University edged past Lafayette 84-82 on Wednesday night.
Mahoney shot 12 for 15 from the field.
Javante McCoy had 12 points for Boston University (14-16, 7-10 Patriot League). Tyler Scanlon added 11 points. Alex Vilarino had 11 points for the visitors.
McCoy made two free throws to give the Terriers their 84-82 lead with 27 seconds to go. After Lafayette's Alex Petrie missed a jumper, McCoy was fouled and missed both attempts from the line. McCoy got the rebound after his second miss, was fouled again and missed both attempts again, now with nine seconds left. Lafayette's Lukas Jarrett missed a 3-pointer as time expired. McCoy finished 2 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Petrie had 19 points for the Leopards (10-18, 7-10). Justin Jaworski added 17 points. E.J. Stephens had 15 points.
The Terriers evened the season series against the Leopards with the win. Lafayette defeated Boston University 79-72 on Feb. 6.
Boston University finishes out the regular season against Navy at home on Saturday. Lafayette finishes out the regular season against Colgate at home on Saturday.
