Rivals set to battle when Duke hosts UNC

The rivals meet for the first time this season Wednesday night at Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium.


IU AD calls profane chant 'embarrassing'

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) Indiana athletic director Fred Glass called the profane chant directed at Purdue center Matt Haarms during Tuesday night's game "embarrassing."

Haarms first drew the crowd's wrath when he locked arms with Indiana center De'Ron Davis. After Haarms landed on the court, the refs assessed a foul to each player late in the first half


No. 5 Tennessee bounces back vs. Vandy

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee's offense was bad. Vanderbilt's was worse.

On a night when both teams posted their lowest point totals of the season, No. 5 Tennessee outlasted Vanderbilt 58-46 on Tuesday in the Volunteers' first game since losing their No. 1 ranking.


No. 24 Maryland tops No. 21 Iowa 66-65

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon knew the ball would be in Iowa guard Jordan Bohannon's hands.

The No. 24 Terrapins were ready in the final 7.8 seconds, and they turned the No. 21 Hawkeyes away from a third-straight buzzer beater with a 66-65 victory on Tuesday night.


No. 4 Kentucky grinds past Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) Three days after knocking off the nation's top-ranked team, Kentucky coach John Calipari just wanted to get out of Missouri with a victory over the struggling Tigers, regardless of how it looked.

The fourth-ranked Wildcats accomplished the victory, beating the Tigers 66-58, but getting out of town proved more difficult.


FSU sets mark with 8th straight ACC win

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) Trent Forrest said Florida State entered the season hoping to make history. The 16th-ranked Seminoles certainly did that at Clemson.

Mfiondu Kabengele had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Florida State set a program record with its eighth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference victory in a 77-64 win over the Tigers on Tuesday night.


Butler helps Baylor beat No. 19 Iowa St.

AMES, Iowa (AP) Iowa State might have blown its shot at the Big 12 title because it suddenly and somewhat inexplicably can't win in Ames.

Jared Butler scored 17 points, Freddie Gillespie had 14 and Baylor upset No. 19 Iowa State 73-69 on Tuesday night.


No. 25 Buffalo makes 19 3s, routs Ohio

AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) Buffalo coach Nate Oats drew on his experience as a high school math teacher help his team understand the value of a blowout victory.

After grinding out two wins on what Oats said was the team's biggest road trip of the season, the Bulls were disappointed to see that they remained at No. 25 in the poll.


Texas A&M rallies past Alabama

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) When Texas A&M fell behind by double digits in the second half on Tuesday night against Alabama, coach Billy Kennedy was certain his team could get back in it if the Aggies focused on defense.

They did, holding Alabama scoreless for more than five minutes to dig out of the hole and go on to a 65-56 win.


New Mexico St. rolls to 12th win in row

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) Trevelin Queen came off the bench to score 14 points to help carry New Mexico State to an 80-42 win over Texas A&M-International on Tuesday night, the Aggies' 12th straight victory.

Eli Chuha had 14 points for New Mexico State (23-4), which never trailed. JoJo Zamora added 11 points with three 3-pointers and Mohamed Thiam grabbed 11 rebounds.
