Auburn adds Georgia transfer G Johnson

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) Former Georgia guard K.D. Johnson is transferring to Southeastern Conference rival Auburn.

Tigers coach Bruce Pearl said Monday that Johnson has signed an Athletics Financial Aid Agreement to play for Auburn next season.

Johnson, who averaged 13.5 points and 1.9 steals per game as a freshman at Georgia last season, will be eligible immediately and have four years remaining. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder played in 16 games last season after being declared eligible before the Auburn game.


UTEP's Williams transfers to Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) Texas Tech added another transfer Monday in Bryson Williams, who is set to play for his third college in his fifth and final season.

Williams spent the past two years at UTEP after starting his career at Fresno State. He joined the Miners after Rodney Terry left Fresno State to become UTEP's coach.


Tide F Rojas has surgery to repair ACL

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) Alabama forward James Rojas had surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Crimson Tide coach Nate Oats said the reserve had surgery on his left knee Tuesday, but that he expects Rojas to be back during Southeastern Conference play.


Ex-Big East commish Marinatto dies at 64

John Marinatto, the Big East commissioner during a tumultuous period of conference realignment across college sports, has died. He was 64.

Providence College, Marinatto's alma mater and the school where he began a long career in college sports, said he died Saturday. The cause was not disclosed.


Appling denied bond in murder case

DETROIT (AP) A former Michigan State University basketball star was ordered to remain in jail during his first court appearance on murder and other charges in Detroit.

Defense attorney Andrew Abood asked for a bond, saying Keith Appling had always appeared in court in previous cases. But a magistrate denied bond Thursday, noting the first-degree murder charge.


Wake Forest adds Ole Miss transfer Sy

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) Wake Forest is adding graduate transfer Khadim Sy from Mississippi.

The school announced Sy's signing Friday to bolster the Demon Deacons' frontcourt. The 6-foot-10, 238-pound Sy started 31 of his 45 games over the past two seasons at Ole Miss, averaging 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in that time.

A federal law governing how college athletes can earn money off their fame and celebrity seems certain to pass - at some point.

There is no real debate among lawmakers on Capitol Hill about whether athletes should be permitted to monetize their name, image and likeness.


Standiford to replace Roth as Gonzaga AD

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) Gonzaga promoted Chris Standiford to director of athletics on Tuesday following the announcement that Mike Roth is retiring at the end of August after 24 years of leading the Bulldogs' sports programs.

Standiford has been a member of the Gonzaga staff for 31 years and currently is the deputy director of athletics, the school said in a statement. Roth announced Monday that he would retire.


Seton Hall, Rutgers to renew rivalry

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Rutgers and Seton Hall are going to renew their basketball rivalry with a game at the Prudential Center on Dec. 12.

The schools announced the game on Tuesday.


Izzo promotes Wojcik to asst. coach

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo has promoted Doug Wojcik to assistant coach, replacing Dane Fife.

Izzo also hired three former Spartans on Monday.
